Body and Birth

A Birth Preparation Course

A weekend antenatal education and yoga retreat and follow up birth planning with Alex Newton and Independent Midwife (IM) Phoebe Pallotti. This package covers all of the information and education in other national courses and includes the option of an IM birth planning session and ongoing IM advice through your pregnancy. This is a fully embodied birth preparation yoga and somatic movement course desinged to integrate your informational, physical and emotional preparation needs for birth and beyond. This all takes part in a space that acts as a container to explore and process all the that is birth, far away from a traditional, hierarchical learning environment.

September date: Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September 2025. These courses run aproximately every two months.

I am so excited to offer this weekend workshop with my good friend Phoebe - an Independent Midwife based here in Sheffield. Phoebe has been a qualified midwife for 17 years and has worked in large teaching hospitals, small district hospitals and has spent several years working abroad. She’s incredibly warm and welcoming as well as being hugely knowledgeable. She has supported many queer and trans families, neurodiverse families and also has a decade of experience in active allyship in anti-racism in pregnancy and birth services. You can read more about Phoebe here https://www.phoebethemidwife.org/about.

Phoebe will be our birth rights, birth education and midwidery guide and I’ll be supporting with movement, body centric practices and supporting deep rest and relaxation. This is an embodied workshop and we will be working with all of this rich information and knowledge by dropping into our bodies, leaning into our needs and our courage to voice them; how it feels to have them heard and how it feels to be in community with each other.

After the weekened of preparation and reflection to sit in our feelings and find our birth path, Phoebe will offer a one to one (at your home if you prefer) birth planning session, to produce a tangible birth plan (whatever that looks like for you) and offer ongoing support with choices and strategies as your birth gets closer.

Where is it?

This is an opportunity to delve into all things birth in a cosy home setting - my home here in Meersbrook! We’ll be predominantly chatting, moving and resting in my small home studio at the top of the house but we’ll have the whole house for the weekend to use - we’ll have a delicious vegan lunch together and provide nourishing (and chocolate) snacks and hydrating and soothing teas throughout the weekend as well. If it’s a nice weekend we may be able to venture out into the garden too. I hope you can make yourself at home for the weekend.

Who is this for?

Anyone who is becoming a parent, is currently pregnant, for those preparing for assisted conception, as well as those who are already parents and thinking of having more! We both put emphasis on supporting co-parents as much more than just a ‘birth supporter’ by valuing their experience and their needs through the journey to becoming a bigger family.
