Tales of Birth, Loss and Abortion from Sheffield

The Sheffield Birth Story Project

Birth, Loss and Abortion stories are powerful.

We are in the very early days of gathering birth workers, artists, collaborators and story tellers. We want to find a way for those that want to tell their stories to be able to do so.

This is an invitation for you to tell your story however you like. This isn’t about harvesting stories nor even in the finished article - but rather in the telling of the story. We know that stories morph and change over time - how we feel about our experience of birth, loss and abortion changes. How we recount the story changes. We’re here for it all - the journey of the story and the way that you experience it.

The way you tell it is up to you. Do you want to record it? Would you like it to be a conversation between you and me? Would you like to video it? Write it? Paint it? Sculpt it? Collage it? What you do with your story is up to you.

It is so important for you to have full creative control of your story and in the telling of it. I leave it totally up to you in this process and you can decide at any point to publish it/put it out into the ether or to keep it close to your heart. There is no wrong or right way.

Who is your story for? Is it for just you to keep and treasure? For your family and friends? Or perhaps you want to put it out into the world?

Stories are poweful - both in the telling of them and in the receiving of them. Having your story heard and witnessed can be incredibly therepeutic and powerful.

Get in touch below if you’d like to tell your story - I’d love to hear from you.
